tom, 42 moons, leader, timberclan
appearance
a large gray tabby will cool lucid eyes.
personality
first and foremost, the most prominent trait that anyone could recognize almost instantly from this bulky fellow, is his steady aptitude for keeping his head and wits about him in any situation. it is not an easy task to unsettle him, no matter what the circumstances, and if by some chance of fate you have upset him, then shame on you. you must have said something terribly, terrible awful. nonetheless, stormstar is, in general, a very cool tom. he regards both friends, enemies, and even strangers with the same amount of passive calmness, which, in turn, helps his reputation as a good leader. of course it's always helpful to be able to remain in his normal state of mind when everyone around him is agitated, and he finds this gives him the upperhand in almost every situation of the sort, as he feels that a temper rarely solves anything.
however, this coolness does occasionally, sometimes often, turn into pure iciness. his narrowed blue eyes keep offenders at bay, and everyone knows it when stormstar is irritated for, while a generally good-natured fellow, he has an uncanny ability to become all-consumingly frigid toward others. especially strangers. throughout his time as a warrior of timberclan, stormstar has come to know everyone of his own clan, of course, but even most from the other clans. newcomers, loners, rogues, and so on? they will get little more than the cold shoulder from him, as he finds no reason to trust this type of feline. rivals, mouse-brains, and lazycats will also find themselves quarantined by stormstar through such treatment. he is forgiving though, and will always allow such cats to redeem themselves from his penetrating condescension.
along with this, and perhaps punctuated by this ultimate cool-headedness, stormstar is wise. his deep knowledge seems to radiate from his very being, surely this is primarily because of his calm serene attitude. he is a fellow who is always incredibly sure of himself and his opinions, which gives him an air of confidence along with his extensive knowledge and knack for sharp common sense. therefore, cats have a tendency to listen to him when he opens his mouth-- a very valuable trait for any leader.
uncommon for a leader, however, is stormstar's lack of faith. well, perhaps not a lack altogether, but the trust that he puts in starclan is bare minimum for a cat of his ranking. he believes in his warrior ancestors, of course, which is how he earned his nine lives, but does he think they will ever work a miracle to help he or his clanmates? utter nonsense. they are dead cats, that's all. he feels that looking for signs and such from them, or hoping for them to 'look over' the clans is foolish when a cat could simply take matters into their own paws instead of being helpless without the aid of the dead.
of course, stormstar is an incredibly loyal tom. more than loyal in fact, he far exceeds the word 'loyal', for there is something almost obsessive about his relationship with his clan. an addiction perhaps, as the feeling of being their guardian and protector fuels him like a drug, keeping him going through the day. when feeling down, it helps him to know he has to push it away and put on a placid smile for them, it keeps the ghosts away at night too. knowing that he is the leader makes stormstar almost crazy with love toward timberclan and the cats within it, so when times get tough and he makes a desperate move, everyone can at least rest easy in knowing his intentions are never selfish. he would go to war if he thought that meant that timberclan would come out better than before.
a peculiar but understandable quirk of stormstar's is his intense, all-consuming fear of water. he will dart for cover in the rain and swerve around puddles afterward- sometimes he foolishly gives himself dizzy spells and headaches when he refuses to drink from any streams or pools for fear of falling in. it is not only discomfort in getting his pelt wet- it is the lives that he knows the deadly stuff can mercilessly claim. nightmares still haunt him of his sister and former leader falling victim to its vehement wrath, and it keeps him skittish. however, he successfully keeps this a secret from most- after all, a big tough fellow like himself would have to be awfully weak to be scared of a little thing like rain!
this tom is really quite a guarded, secretive fellow. though outwardly he is not unkind, many feel that when they really think about it, they know nothing about him at all. stormstar likes it that way, keeping others out of his own affairs in order to keep his head about him. letting others in in a manner that is anything but professional proves only harmful in the long run, he had decided over the course of his life, and goes out of his way to keep friends as acquaintances and romances as attractions. his past and his future are his own, and no one elses to share. though he feels immensely responsible for all that his clan is involved in, stormstar handles these situations in the most distant manner that he can. his feelings, thoughts, and intuitions will be kept firmly guarded in his head- never voiced.
while stormstar is actually quite introverted, and prefers time to himself over time spent with anyone else, he is still a very sociable fellow when the need calls. and, as leader, need often calls. thus he has learned how to become less awkward and less shy, and far more friendly toward clanmates. of course, changing his normally rough social habits is always a constant uphill battle, stormstar has made a lot of progress to become something of an amiable father-figure to his clanmates at least, and his generally a sweet fellow when with those he feels comfortable with.
history
two plain, relatively well-liked and well-respected warriors gave birth to four beautiful kits, as the parents themselves were moderately attractive cats anyway. the family was nothing special though, for the mother, called birchsoft, lacked personality in the same vivaciousness that the father, called falconwing, also lacked. however they were good enough, perhaps the very definition of good enough in fact. nice, loving, supportive, et cetera, et cetera. all in all, the kits, oakkit, stormkit, troutkit, and darkkit, led a moderately swell life.
of course, it couldn't last. no family is so lucky, and their world was shattered at their fifth moon, when they were beginning to grasp the potential harsh world they had been born into when their father, falconwing, went missing. birchsoft, of course, was devastated. falconwing was her other half! however, after many moons of mourning, she eventually came out on the other side of her grief as a stronger female and a more loving mother as, in the meantime, her kits had become apprentices.
at their eighth moon, stormpaw and troutpaw decided to skip training together and instead adventure, pretending that troutpaw was troutstar and stormpaw was troutstar's clever and loyal deputy, stormtail. of course, they had to check out the infamous galeclan's border first, and did so by meeting at the hot springs, and following the river down. unfortunately, they had crossed without even knowing it, and found themselves dangerously deep into galeclan's land, as foolish as they had been.
stormpaw knew something was up when they had begun to travel too long, but troutpaw shook her head and laughed it off, tell her older brother to shut up and relax. to appease her and to protect her, stormpaw followed as they continued to trek down, down, downstream. however, their journey was doomed from the start. while pretending to 'fish', troutpaw toppled into the rushing waters, and stormpaw felt he had no choice but to jump in after her, knowing that if he could just grab her scruff and fight the current, he could save them both.
it was risky, but he wouldn't have been able to live with himself had he done nothing. still the guilt haunts him, as he grabbed her and fought with all of his young might, he couldn't make it, and they both crashed over The Maw, into the depths of the lake. still clinging to his drowning sister, stormpaw was thrown against the rocky cliffs, both apprentices smashed to unconsciousness until a patrol of galeclan warriors discovered and saved them. troutpaw was dead, and no one could wake up stormpaw, though they still felt his pulse.
he woke a little less than a week later with a case of severe amnesia.
of course, his two moons of training had to be re-taught, meanwhile his mother had abandoned him and his mentor was shockingly cold toward him at all times now, only training him for his own reputation then. this, unfortunately, was because stormpaw's mentor driftwood had been developing a sort of crush on stormpaw's now-deceased sister, and his dreams of one day declaring his love and raising a family with the sweet little she-cat were long gone with her life.
stormpaw, meanwhile, was fighting his own battles, for as soon as he had woken, they had told him exactly what he had done. that he was horrible, stupid, inconsiderate, though they didn't know the whole story at all, they could only assume as he was the big brother who had killed his little sister so recklessly.
and still yet, he had to fight through all the memories lost. he hadn't known his own name, nor the warrior code, nor even who StarClan was. he couldn't tell his leader from his mother. everything had to be retaught while he tried his best to earn back the love and trust of his clanmates, furthermore mourning the loss of his supposed sister.
oakpaw and darkpaw were made warriors, given the names oakshade and darkfrost. they had forgiven their brother before everyone else, and helped him along his tough journey to recovery, and in the end he earned his warrior name, too. he wasn't discouraged, despite the fact that his name, stormtide, was earned three moons later than theirs.
fortunately, he had finally earned a chance to redeem himself in the eyes of his clanmates, as one of his sisters was, once more, in peril. this time it was darkfrost. she had been out with, oddly enough, driftwood. stormtide's former mentor had evidently found the same sparkle in darkfrost's eye as he had in troutpaw, and did his best to court the pretty black female. stormtide had been out on his own, and heard the cries of fright. not a moment too late, the big tom arrived on the scene of a fight between an elderly fox with a younger one and his two clanmates. the three of them successfully drove away the younger fox and killed the older, though darkfrost and driftwood were heavily scarred.
darkfrost made a speedy recovery, as her two siblings visited her often and kept her company, but driftwood refused to stay still and heal, and continued to sneak out of the medicine cat's den and remove his bandages and salves. thus, no one was much surprised when his wounds became infected. however, the entire clan mourned the loss of a prized warrior and notorious flirt when the infections spread and took his life.
after the burial ceremony, though, stormtide was accepted at last as a good warrior and brother within timberclan, and felt at ease with himself once more, having since earned back more small bits of his memory.
after the fox accident, stormtide was trusted with his first apprentice. he was a wild and giddy little tom, called sproutpaw. training went smoothly, and after six moons he went on to be called sproutleaf, and became a close friend of stormtide's, as unlike stormtide and his own mentor, he became very close with his apprentice, and a tight, everlasting bond was formed.
after that, stormtide felt as though life flew by. flirting females came and went, along with apprentices and friends and enemies. nothing much came of any of it, and thankfully he continued to gain back bits and pieces of his memory, pre-tragedy.
unfortunately, deputy redfoot passed after his case of greencough progressed too quickly to blackcough for burntail to reverse. juniperstar was incredibly distraught (as there were rumors of an affair going about) and took her sweet time choosing a new deputy as there was a plethora of potentials in the warriors. however, it was stormtide she chose. honored and content, stormtide slid smoothly into his new position as if it were the spot he had been born at in life, and aided the clan immensely.
however, the following spring, heavy rains smashed apart the clans with rapid flooding. one of these dangerous flash-floods had claimed juniperstar's final life. with that, stormtide became stormstar. only four moons have passed since he earned his new name, but he is quite content as leader.
